Gun Safety Advice and Tips
for Parents

Loading

gun safety, children and guns, child proofing Gun safety needs to be talked about with your children, family and friends even if you don't own a gun. Every year hundreds of children are killed in accidental shootings. The majority of children obtained the guns from either their own homes or homes of relatives or friends.

Statistic state that over 5000 children are killed with guns in America every year.

In light of these alarming facts, many parents do not properly lock and store their guns. This is vital if you have children in your life.

    • Guns are not toys. Stress this fact to your young toddler.
    • Children as young as one year old can have enough hand strength to squeeze a trigger on a handgun.
    • Talk to your children about guns. Teach children that guns are real and can cause injury or death. It is important to help children separate fact from fiction due to media influences.
    • Store all weapons in a locked storage bin. This goes for guns,bows/arrows,stun guns and pepper spray. Make sure weapons are unloaded when stored.
    • Lock and store ammunition in a separate place.
    • Hide keys where children can't find them. Make sure it's someplace high enough where children can't reach them even with a chair.
    • Make sure that family and friends store their guns in child safe cabinets with locks.
    • Teach your toddler to never touch a gun if he finds one and to come tell an adult.
    • Best practice is if you have children do not have guns.
