Diaper Rash Treatments and
Bottom Healthcare Tips

Loading

diaper rash, baby, mommy Diaper rash treatments and preventions are an important part of taking care of your baby's bottom. Your baby's bottom care is just as import as your baby's nutrition and health care.

There are an incredible amount of products on the market to promote the health of a baby's bottom. Diaper rash treatments such as creams can be found at most any store that carries baby products.

Offered here are good practical tips on the bottom end of baby care. Remember this, your baby is unique and so is his bottom. Not all products might agree with him so watch for reactions.

First a crash course on what to pack in the diaper bag.

Packing the baby bag 101. If you think you might need it put it in there. I'd rather have to take it out then not have it and need it.

    • 2or3 sets of extra of clothes
    • burp clothes
    • bibs
    • blankets
    • 5-6 diapers
    • wipes
    • bottom cream
    • bottles
    • nipples
    • bottle bags
    • pacifier
    • pain medicationthermometer
    • toys
    • hat
    • baby sunglasses
    • sunscreen
    • and at least
    • 5-6 diapers
    • Determine if you are going to use cloth or disposable baby diapers. Then place 2-3 more in the bag then you think you will ever need.
    • Try different brands of baby diapers. All brands are not the same. I know that certain brands work better for boys and others for girls. Also some brands may irritate baby's skin.
    • Wipes are also different. If you need to cut corners this is where I would try to save money. If less expensive brands do not irritate your baby's skin then use them.
    • If you don't have a wipe warmer hold the wipe in your hand a few seconds to warm it up some.
    • If you have a girl make sure to clean inside her folds. Improper cleaning might cause irritation or infections.
    • If you have a boy lift up and clean under his penis. If he's not circumcised push the skin back and clean around inside skin folds.
    • Avoid using baby powder. Powder cakes and is difficult to clean out of folds. It can also cause irritation to air ways.
    • Watch allergic signs to certain wipes, diapers, soaps or bottom cream.

    • Always wipe your baby's bottom every time you change him to remove any urine left on his skin and prevent irritation.
    • Change your baby as soon as you can after a bowel movement to keep skin from becoming sore.
    • Antibiotics, juices or even certain foods can give a baby diarrhea. If your baby has diarrhea make sure you change him ASAP. Diarrhea can be acidic and can burn tender skin.
    • Antibiotics can also cause candida yeast to become imbalanced in the digestive tract which can cause a yeast infection (yes, even in boys). Watch for a raw diaper rash on his bottom or in the folds of his legs and neck.
    • Air your baby's bottom for at least 5 minutes every day to promote healthy skin.
    • Not all diaper rash treatment creams are the same and you may need to try a few before you find that one that works for your baby. My son had very sensitive skin and I found that Desitin Creamy with Aloe was the best product for him.
